Clean Your Plate? Depends On How Much Is There

Many people who suffer from chronic indigestion and other gastrointestinal issues spend a fortune on antacids and other home remedies, but they seldom get relief. Why? It’s not what they’re eating, but how much, that’s the problem.

Overeating puts a significant strain not only on the stomach, but the entire digestive system. According to experts, more than 75 percent of us are guilty of overeating. But with a little attention to detail, you can nip the problem in the bud.

Being aware of your mental and emotional health is important, as it’s easy to reach for food in times of crisis or stress. Instead of eating, go for a walk or get some other form of exercise. You can also call a friend for support, watch a movie or even clean the house – anything to keep you from reaching for the cookie jar!

Most importantly, know when to say when! Many of us don’t stop eating when we are physically full. We keep on chowing down until our plate is clean, the show is over or everyone else is done. A better idea is to use a smaller plate or don’t fill up the large one. Also avoid going back for seconds, and don’t eat while watching television.

A little time and attention to the amount you’re eating, as well as learning to push back from the table, will keep you from overfilling your stomach. And that will stop those digestive issues before they even have a chance to start.
